Big City Plan Event

Core was appointed by Birmingham City Council to organise the Big City Plan mid-term conference, which was held at the ICC in central Birmingham on 20th January 2009. The conference was one of a number of initiatives that took place during the formal consultation period for the Big City Plan, which ran from December 2008 to February 2009.

Core worked with the Council to create a comprehensive database of key contacts across the business, property and community sectors. 250 delegates attended the free event, which kicked off with presentations about the work done to date on central Birmingham’s new masterplan. Delegates were then split into 16 workshop groups, which acted as forums for consultation. All questions posed in the Big City Plan Work In Progress document were discussed within the workshop groups. Delegates then turned their hand to options posed for the 9 new city quarters.

This unique event created a huge buzz about Birmingham’s future. It was both challenging and highly rewarding to be able to work with Birmingham City Council to deliver such a successful event.

“Core was appointed to co-ordinate the Big City Plan mid-term conference because of their understanding of the issues facing Birmingham and the city region. Core has an in-built understanding of how to best approach the topics raised from the Big City Plan Work in Progress Report, and their extensive bank of contacts has ensured that we can confidently deliver the conference with a short lead-in period. They are professional, effective and a key member of the team.” Philip Singleton, Assistant Director, City Centre Development & Design.
