Mike Herbert, regional director for St. Modwen, presents Melanie Mills Head of Fundraising & PR for the Donna Louise Trust with the cheque for £11,842.

St. Modwen’s North Staffordshire office challenged employees and business contacts to raise at least £10,000 in 2009 for the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice in Stoke on Trent by completing the Three Peaks Challenge. They have significantly exceeded the target with £11,842 raised to date.

That’s nearly 25 miles walking and 10,000 feet of climb

A total of 28 intrepid adventurers from St. Modwen including teams from The Trentham Estate, solicitors Wragge & Co, consulting engineers Halcrow Yolles, Quantity Surveyors Prosurv Consult and other friends and contacts endured extremes of weather including heavy rain, gales, dense clouds and even snow, tackling the three highest mountains in the UK – Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowden (Wales) with the majority completing the extreme challenge within 24 hours.  That’s nearly 25 miles walking and 10,000 feet of climb, plus driving to the three mountains in less than one day.

Speaking about the event Mike Herbert, regional director for St. Modwen, who launched the challenge earlier this year, commented: “Completing the Three Peaks Challenge was a real test of both mental and physical agility but one which we were all determined to complete in order to raise as much money as possible for the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice.  It was fantastic to share the challenge with colleagues and associates who we work with on a regular basis and our successful working relationships certainly helped us in motivating one another and finding the best routes up and down each mountain.  We are thrilled to have raised so much money for the hospice and are already exploring new fundraising challenges that we can undertake on behalf of the charity next year.”

“We would like to say a massive thank you and well done to everyone who took part in the Three Peaks Challenge.”

Melanie Mills, Head of Fundraising & PR for the Donna Louise Trust added: “We would like to say a massive thank you and well done to everyone who took part in the Three Peaks Challenge. We are delighted with the money that has been raised. We rely on the generosity of the people of Staffordshire and South Cheshire to raise the £2 million needed each year to provide respite and end of life care for life threatened children. It costs around £400 per day per child to receive much needed respite care and the money raised by the St. Modwen teams will help us provide around 28 days of care – it makes a huge difference!”
