Director and Finance pod’s top 5 TV adverts

Inspired by the Evian Roller Babies advert hitting our TV screens, Core’s Director and Finance pod has narrowed down its list of favourite TV adverts to create a top 5… bring on 80’s nostalgia, dancing and animal magic!

Tied 1st place: Evian Roller Babies
This advert inspired a viral campaign of note, as we all saw it on YouTube last year and had a proper giggle at the time. However, its brilliance is confirmed by how excited we are to have it on the telly at last – babies on roller blades, dancing to hip hop… just brilliant!

Tied 1st place: Compare the Meerkat
No other advertising campaign has generated so much sustained laughter! Aleksandr and friends have kept us chuckling for close to a year now, as we compare meerkats and eagerly anticipate the next tv advert. If pushed, our favourite would probably be the jacuzzi scene, but we only need to see Aleksandr with his pointing stick and blackboards to laugh out loud!

2nd place: The John West Salmon bear fight
An oldie, but a goldie! We can remember the bear’s grizzly karate kicks as if it was yesterday!

3rd place: Nestle Gold Blend campaign
While this was not the only long running soap style ad campaign of the 1980’s, it was definitely the best in our eyes. It’s that magic combination of outrageously cheesy story lines, the sultry delivery of every word and high maintenance voluminous hair that kept our eyes peeled for the next tragic instalment.

4th place: Cadbury’s Gorilla bangs the drums
The tense build up, nose twitching and classic Bonnie Tyler power ballad create a winning combination for Cadbury’s Dairy Milk. We can’t get enough of it!

5th place: T Mobile dancing mob takes over Liverpool St station
There were too many brilliant and memorable ads that could have easily made it into our top 5, but we awarded 5th place to T Mobile for effort and originality. Just how many dancers did they recruit to shake their booty in Liverpool St station?! The long version on YouTube is over choreographed, but the short burst televised last year had us all wishing we were there… What a shame they picked Liverpool Street’s huge concourse and classical elegance over Birmingham New Street!
