Nuvo – the creation of a new Birmingham brand

This spring saw the opening of Nuvo, Birmingham’s most elegant new lounge bar situated within Eleven Brindleyplace.

Core was tasked with creating the entire brand identity for Nuvo from the design of its sleek typographical logo to the continuation of this through an entire range of marketing materials.

With a distinct gap in the Birmingham market for an upmarket venue that appeals to a more distinguished crowd, Core was briefed to create an identity for Nuvo which was reflective of its both its stylish design and unique appeal to a more sophisticated target market.

The Nuvo branding was thus developed in close collaboration with both the client and interior designer Suzanne Barnes, to ensure a fluid and united brand was achieved.   Firstly, the logo was explored to communicate Nuvo’s style, class and individuality. It makes use of a bespoke typeface to strike equilibrium between corporate and professional, whilst also being fun and chic in the extreme.

The wider branding material utilises a flowing curve form, which lends itself to the chic and seductive furnishings found within Nuvo. This curve form has been used creatively throughout much of the printed material including stationery, launch party invitations and advertising campaigns. It is also used stylishly throughout the bar interior and can be seen ascending the full height of the main entrance wall and climbing the curved staircase to the top floor.

The branding material conveys a luxury yet understated feel. This was achieved by choosing a medal bronze paper stock for the launch invitations and business cards and using a black foil print. The simplicity of the typography and layout complements the decadence of the paper stock to further communicate Nuvo’s perfect balance between leisure and sophistication.

The colour palette used throughout the branding material was selected entirely from the interior design of Nuvo.  Subtle touches such as the menu covers utilising the same leather finish as the seating within Nuvo, highlight the commitment to quality that is demonstrated throughout.
