My Experience of Core – A Blog from Zoe King
Searching for a work placement within the fashion industry has proved almost impossible for me, and then any kind of marketing experience proved to be just as hard to come by. Like thousands of others, I had a vision of taking myself off to London and making a name for myself in the marketing department of a top luxury fashion brand. In reality, that’s a hard aim to achieve with a standard student loan and a modest CV. Just as I was about to give up and look for a dull shop job for a few months, the lovely Core team were kind enough to take me in and show me the ropes.
Working at Core is a pleasure, and that’s not purely down to being surrounded by tea lovers and endless chocolate treats circulating around the office, honest.
What makes Core a great creative agency?
A healthy environment, effective communication and positive attitude.
The purple and pink interiors of the office are uplifting and motivating. The thought-shower pod gives everyone an area for creativity to be expressed and shared, and also doubles up as a place to get together over lunch once in a while. A mixture of keyboard tapping, conversation, background music and laughter fill the office. Clients and associates phoning up and dropping in are always greeted with a smile and a friendly welcome, any time of the day. Monday mornings aren’t too much of a struggle. The Core team work very hard but they know how to have a laugh and get each other through the day.
What I’ve learnt so far …
Preparation is vital. I have been carrying out research on various things and have seen how much work goes into a project before anything tangible is even produced. Also being given the chance to have a go at writing press releases and blogs, I have seen how my levels of preparation drastically change the quality of the finished product.
Take pride in your presentation and everything you do; I have been taken along to meetings with clients to get a feel of the whole process of representing a company and it is important that I represent Core the best that I can.
A little confidence will go a long way; PR and Marketing is primarily about communicating with people, and there’s no room to be shy!
Being a part of Core has also made me realise that Birmingham, my home city is a great place to be. Core is a part of many great marketing campaigns within the city, promoting the best of bars, restaurants, accommodation and businesses that Birmingham has to offer.
It seems there is life outside of London.
