Cornish treats at Core
The end of the month means one thing at Core… time for some tasty grub and a bit of a chin-wag!
Proving that we are happy to be guinea pigs for our clients, the team was treated to a selection of Cornish Pasties in preparation for an event later in the year.
Fit for royalty, it is believed that King Henry VIII’s queen Jane Seymour, enjoyed a tasty pasty on several occasions and we certainly had a feast fit for a queen. From traditional, to cheese and onion, steak and ale and chicken and mushroom, it was pasties galore!
The pasty originally evolved to meet the needs of tin miners. A hearty meal wrapped in a pastry casing was the prefect practical lunch down in the dark and damp tunnels of the mines. The crust or ‘crimp’ made it easy to hold, allowing miners to eat the filling before discarding the crust, which was more important than you might think as miners often worked in areas where arsenic would be present.
Tradition has it that the original pasties contained meat and vegetables in one end and jam or fruit in the other end. We decided to give that a one miss and opted for cupcakes from the local produce market that was held in Brindleyplace instead.
Overall the Cornish pasties got a big thumbs up from the Core team! So what’s next for us to try?
