Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!

Congratulations to everyone that sent in a picture of their fabulously festive trees (link) – don’t forget the winner will be announced tomorrow!

Now let’s take a trip down memory lane and find out where the Christmas tree tradition all began…

The individual responsible for bringing the Christmas tree into our lives was Queen Charlotte, the German-born wife of George III, the ‘Mad King’. Back in 1800, on Christmas Day, she held a party for the children of Windsor where the centrepiece was a yew tree decorated with sweetmeats, toys and candles – Britain’s first recorded Christmas tree!

Decorations for the Christmas tree have evolved over the years. Initially the idea was to fill it with all kinds of ornaments and colourful items. Nowadays Christmas trees can be used to depict anything you like – hobbies, moods, your favourite holiday, anything.

At Core of course, our favourite Christmas trees are the most creative so here’s a selection of some of the most weird and wonderful…
